Step One – The First Visits
We encourage your child and yourself to visit 3-4 times to ensure you really wish to join our group. This allows your child time to see that they enjoy being with the section and being a member. Your child can join in most events, even if they are new, as long as the Y1 Youth Member Application form is complete and given to your Leader. You will then need to purchase a uniform, pay the registration fees and be invested.
Step Two – What Does It Cost?
There are two parts to the annual fee:
- Bibra Lake Scout Group – Group Membership Fees
Scout Group will invoice you an amount per term. The current fee for 2017 is $80 per term. It depends on when you join and how many family members are joining. Group Membership Fees are used by the P&F Committee and leaders to pay for rent for the hall, provide materials at weekly meetings, equipment purchases, Leader training, shed and equipment maintenance, trailer registration costs and other costs to the group. Camps, branch activities and some other specially arranged activities are not covered by these costs and will be advised by the leader of the section on the Y3 activity form of any costs for each activity. Payment details are included with the invoice. We try to keep group membership fees at a minimum.
2. Scouts WA – Membership Fee Scouts WA will invoice you their component, currently $172 (2017) separately. Scouts WA fees cover insurance when on Scouting activities plus an amount towards administration. This invoice is created when you have decided to join and your Y1 Youth Member Application form has been processed and is sent by email. Payment is made directly to Scouts WA and due at the same time each year.
Kidsport WA It is also possible that you may qualify for a Kidsport Grant, run by the Department of Sport and Recreation. Visit their KidSport website to find out more and speak to us when you wish to apply.
Step Three – The Uniform
Once your child has decided to join a uniform is required. The uniform is available from the Scout Shop, 133 Scarborough Beach Rd, Mount Hawthorn. Opening hours are Tuesday 10am – 2pm, Thursday 11am – 3pm and Saturday 9am – 12 noon, phone 6240 7720. The Scout Shop is also available online. Click here
The uniform is a button-up shirt or polo shirt with various coloured sleeves for each section. Joeys are brown, Cubs are yellow, Scouts are green, Venturers are maroon and Rovers are red. The shirt is worn with dark navy blue pants or shorts. It is not necessary to buy specific uniform pants, any suitable pants will do (often pants from Big W or Best and Less are much cheaper). The uniform top costs less than $45.
The cost of the investiture is $30 and is payable following the trial and once the uniform has been purchased and the investiture date has been chosen. This charge is for the Bibra Lake scarf, the first scarf woggle (first one is included and others are made or purchased from scout shop) and initial badges for the uniform.
Scout uniform hats are encouraged but optional. Your child must wear enclosed black shoes and socks to every meeting.
Second hand uniforms may be available, just ask one of our leaders or P&F Committee.
